1/4: Good news! All the trails in Little Squalicum Park will be open starting this afternoon (11/17), including a new trail and pedestrian bridge that offer views of the recently completed Little Squalicum Estuary.

Join the City of Bellingham, community partners, and the more than 1 billion people worldwide who celebrate Earth Day each year for our annual volunteer Earth Day Community Work Party.
Together, we will remove invasive species to improve fish and wildlife habitat, help water quality, and restore an urban forest along Squalicum Creek.
All ages and abilities are welcome!
Free pizza and a bike valet are provided. We are also accepting donations of sealed cleaning products for Lydia Place at this event. Find more details and register at cob.org/volunteer-earthday2024.

Exploring this diverse natural wonderland is a once-in-a-lifetime experience, and its diverse beauty goes far beyond the epic waterfalls for which the island is famous: Towering sea cliffs, basalt canyons, technicolor Rhyolite Mountains, misty fjords, dwarf birch forests, and yes, an erupting volcano makes for an unforgettable sensory experience.

Next time you`re in the neighborhood, see if you can spot where we removed Himalayan Blackberry at Birchwood (Park)! 51 of our best and brightest volunteers joined us this past Saturday to help us beautify and steward this fun little park.
At our work party at Birchwood Park on Saturday, April 13th:
β’ 12yd3 of invasive plants (e.g. Himalayan Blackberry) were removed.
β’ 12yd3 of freshly chipped mulch from maple trees was spread.
β’ 3yd3 of trash was removed to keep this park looking beautiful.
β’ Volunteers lifted the total weight of more than 2 adult bison through their stewardship work πͺ π
β’ 8 volunteers took home a free Grand Fir tree to plant in their yard! π²
