The Police Support Services Specialist work group encompasses evidence and identification and the records bureau. Specialists perform a variety of tasks and duties which can vary from day to day or from assigned shift or work unit. They often deal with upset callers who need compassionate assistance.
Specialists have to process questions from external and internal customers. They must be able to quickly problem-solve with sometimes limited information while complying with interlocking regulations and requirements.
Specialists must possess excellent problem-solving skills, provide quality customer service, and be able to perform multiple complex tasks simultaneously. The workgroup deals with 20+ individual databases requiring a specialist to have the ability to process information and learn rapidly. Speed and accuracy are essential to the job.
The records bureau is a 24/7 operation, including shifts on holidays and weekends. Individuals hired to work as a support services specialist are required to work any assigned shift. Employees will be assigned to one of three shifts: day, swing, or night. Shift changes occur every three months and are bid a year in advance.
Police Support Services Specialists hourly wage: $28.84 – $34.20.
