Bellingham Police Support Services Specialist (Records) Employment Information

The Police Support Services Specialist work group is broken up across three assigned units; reception, evidence and identification, and the records bureau. Specialists perform a variety of tasks and duties which can vary from day to day or from assigned shift or work unit. Specialists in any of the units will have to process questions from both external and internal customers, problem-solving in the moment with limited information while complying with interlocking regulations and requirements. They often deal with very upset callers who need assistance in processing a difficult life experience. Specialists must possess excellent problem-solving skills, customer service skills, and be able to perform multiple complex tasks simultaneously. As a workgroup who deals with 20+ individual databases the ability process information and learn rapidly are sought after traits. Speed and accuracy are essential. The records bureau is a 24/7 operation, including shifts on holidays and weekends. Individuals hired to work as a support services specialist are required to work any assigned shift. Shifts include day-shift, swing-shift, and night-shift. Shift change occurs every 3 months and are bid a year in advance.

Police Support Services Specialists: Starting rate is $24.91/hr. Full hourly range is $24.91 – $28.38.

A minimum of one (1) year experience in a position dealing with the public in stressful or time-sensitive situations is required.

Must be able and willing to work any shift and special shifts as assigned.
Must pass a police criminal convictions records check, background investigation, and polygraph exam.
