Opportunities to Serve
Area residents have opportunities to serve the community through participation in City boards, commissions, committees and work groups. Current openings are listed below.
You may submit applications for specific groups whether or not there are current vacancies. You may also submit applications for multiple advisory groups of interest to you. Your application will be kept on file for one year and consulted each time an opening occurs within that year.
Eligibility
Most — but not all — City advisory groups require members to live within Bellingham City limits and have done so for at least one year, unless otherwise specified (noted with * in the Current Opportunities list below.) Some residency exceptions or other requirements may apply to certain groups.

Current Opportunities
Landlord and Tenant Advisory Work Group
There are numerous vacancies on this new, limited-term advisory work group. Please review this group’s purpose and member requirements.
Bellingham Arts Commission
There is one (1) upcoming vacancy on the commission. The commission meets on the 1st Tuesday of the month at 6:00 p.m. in the Mayor’s Board Room at City Hall, 210 Lottie Street.

Bellingham & Whatcom County Housing Authorities Board of Commissioners
There is one (1) upcoming vacancy on the board. The board meets on the 3rd Tuesday of the month from 1:00-3:00 p.m. Please review this board’s specific application instructions.
Historic Preservation Commission
There is one (1) current vacancy on the commission. The commission meets on the 2nd Tuesday of the month at 4:00 p.m. and the 4th Tuesday of the month at 7:00 p.m. in City Council Chambers at City Hall, 210 Lottie Street.
Planning Commission
There is one (1) upcoming vacancy on the commission. The commission meets on the 1st and 3rd Thursdays of the month at 6:00 p.m. in City Council Chambers at City Hall, 210 Lottie Street.
Public Facilities District
There is one (1) vacancy on the board. The board meets on the 3rd Thursday of the month (4-6 times a year) at 12:00 p.m. in the City Council Boardroom at City Hall, 210 Lottie Street.

Tourism Commission
There are two (2) current vacancies on the commission. The commission meets on the 4th Tuesday of the month at 3:00 p.m. in the Mayor’s Board Room at City Hall, 210 Lottie Street.
