(updated 12/01/2023)

Shower and restroom facilities are available at:

  • Base Camp, which offers restrooms and showers to guests of the shelter.
  • Opportunity Council Street Outreach Team Shower Trailer, open 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. every Friday, Saturday and Sunday in the City Hall parking lot, 210 Lottie St. ADA unit available.

All are welcome to pay to use the Arne Hanna Aquatic Center facility for a variety of aquatic programs, but free showers are no longer available, effective July 29, 2023.

Planned Future Services

Showers

Long-term shower access will be significantly expanded by The Way Station, expected to open in summer 2024. Once The Way Station is operational, the City plans to repurpose the City Hall shower trailer at a future tiny home village.

Additional Public Restrooms Downtown

The City has ordered three new “Portland Loo” public restrooms to provide greater access to public restrooms and drinking water and improve sanitation in downtown Bellingham. They are expected to be installed when they arrive in early 2024. We are currently working with stakeholders to identify locations for their installation.

Community expectations

Our community expects that we provide safe, inclusive, comfortable ways for people to use the restroom and take a shower. The City has helped to provide these services, along with several non-profit partners, and we continue to collaborate with various community partners to answer the important and complex questions about how to best meet these needs.
