March 03, 2017 - by Danette Beckley

One notice of infraction has been issued as police work with prosecutors on the investigations into three vehicle/pedestrian collisions occurring since January 29.   All three collisions occurred in marked crosswalks.

On January 29 police investigated a fatality collision in the 2800 block of Old Fairhaven Parkway.

On February 21 the police investigated a collision in the 1100 block of Maple Street.  Injuries from this collision ended up being less serious than originally thought.

Lastly, on February 24 police investigated a third collision in the 2900 block of Woburn.  The victim was flown to Harborview for treatment of his injuries.

A notice of infraction has been issued in the Samish Way collision.  The infraction was for negligent driving in the second degree.  Police met with prosecutors earlier this week and expect to have charges forwarded on the other two collisions soon.

The Bellingham Police Department will be working with the City of Bellingham Traffic Engineering department and local media on a safety campaign highlighting the importance of being aware when driving and walking.
