May 04, 2017 - by Amy Cloud, Communications and Outreach

UPDATE: as of 2:26 p.m. repair is completed and water service has been restored to all customers in the affected area. Street should be fully open by 3:30 p.m.

City of Bellingham Public Works crews are on site at 2945 Newmarket Street, near the Barkley Village, where a water main has broken.  The crews have mobilized repair equipment and began repair work at 11:45 a.m.

Once the water main is shut down, water will be off for businesses, restaurants and residents along Newmarket Street south of Barkley Boulevard.

All customers between Barkley Boulevard and Woburn Street (not including the Haggen store) will be without water for four-to-six hours while the damaged main is repaired.

Barring unforeseen issues, the main will be shut down until approximately 4 p.m.  Crews will be repairing a ductile iron pipe that was installed in 1995.
