Arne Hanna Aquatic Center Maintenance Closure

Center closed Aug. 6 – Sept. 3 for annual maintenance and facility improvements

July 30, 2018 - by Melissa Bianconi

The City of Bellingham's Arne Hanna Aquatic Center is popular and well-used. It requires regular maintenance to ensure its facilities remain safe and functional for all users. This year, the Aquatic Center will be closed for about a month for cleaning and maintenance, from Monday, Aug. 6 through Monday, Sept. 3.

The annual closure is one week longer this year than in previous years due to more significant maintenance projects.  Major repairs include the repairing the water slide stairs and platform, and replacing windows in the natatorium (pool deck) area.

Among the list of maintenance, repair and cleaning projects at the Arne Hanna Aquatic Center:

  • Deep clean pools and facility;
  • Inspection and repair of ADA lifts;
  • Service HVAC (heating-cooling) system;
  • Replace/install/calibrate various water level and chemical meters; and
  • Upgrade CO2 (which is?) system to bulk CO2.

Because of the closure, swim passes will be extended. The Aquatic Center's front desk, at 1114 Potter St. in Bellingham, will be staffed 8 a.m. to noon and 1 to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
