Bellingham Police teams up with Red Robin Gourmet Burgers to raise funds and awareness for Special Olympics Washington

October 19, 2018 - by Claudia Murphy and LETR
On Saturday, October 20, 2018, from 11:00am-2pm and 5pm-8pm, local law enforcement volunteers from the Bellingham Police Department will partner with Red Robin Gourmet Burgers near Bellis Fair Mall to host a Tip-A-Cop event to benefit Special Olympics Washington.  Law enforcement officers and department personnel will serve as celebrity waiters and 100% of their tips will be donated to Special Olympics Washington.
Tip-A-Cop is an official Law Enforcement Torch Run® (LETR) Campaign fundraising event. Through events like Tip-A-Cop, LETR enables Special Olympics Washington to provide programming in sports, health, education and community building for adults and children with intellectual disabilities.
The Law Enforcement Torch Run® (LETR) is the largest public awareness vehicle and grass-roots fundraiser for Special Olympics. Known honorably as Guardians of the Flame, law enforcement members and Special Olympics athletes carry the “Flame of Hope” into the Opening Ceremony of local competitions, and into Special Olympics State, Provincial, National, Regional and World Games. Annually, more than 97,000 dedicated and compassionate law enforcement members carry the “Flame of Hope,” symbolizing courage and celebration of diversity uniting communities around the globe.
Special Olympics Washington provides year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for 18,000 children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in the sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.
