Mayor issues emergency proclamation for winter storm

Proclamation enables City to enter emergency contracts

February 11, 2019 - by Vanessa Blackburn, Mayor's Office

Mayor Kelli Linville signed a proclamation this afternoon that an emergency exists throughout the City of Bellingham for the winter storms that began on February 8. This authorizes the City to provide appropriate emergency assistance to the victims of this current winter storm and take other actions to protect life and property as appropriate.

This provides the City with the ability to enter into emergency contracts and incur obligations necessary to address such emergency situations. This allows each Bellingham department to exercise the powers vested under this proclamation without regard to time consuming procedures or formalities.

This proclamation enables the City to open temporary emergency shelter in the event that our current shelters reach capacity. Whatcom County and the State of Washington issued similar declarations on Friday Feb. 8, 2019.
