City seeks proposals for roundabout art

Project will serve as a unique gateway to this developing area

July 12, 2022 - by Shannon Taysi, Planning and Community Development

The City of Bellingham seeks an artist or artist team to design, fabricate and install artwork at a roundabout located on Cordata Parkway and Horton Road. The deadline to respond to a Request for Qualifications for the project is noon, August 5, 2022.

The Cordata Parkway/Horton Road roundabout is located at the entrance to a residential area where future residential development is planned. Cordata Neighborhood residents have voiced an interest in having artwork that embraces the natural beauty of the surrounding area.

The project is primarily funded through the City’s One Percent for the Arts program, a program that dedicates one percent of large capital project budgets to be allocated for artwork. For this project, $80,000 – $95,000 is available for all phases of the artwork.

The inclusion of artwork in public places reinforces the City’s status as a regional arts destination, increases quality of life and attracts tourism and visitors to the area. The primary goal of this project is to provide a unique feature that serves as a gateway into this developing area of the Cordata Neighborhood.

For the complete Request for Qualifications and submittal requirements please visit the City’s Request for Qualifications – Horton Rd/Cordata Parkway Roundabout webpage.
