The City of Bellingham is seeking applicants for nine board positions on the newly created Water Resources Advisory Board. The new board, approved by Bellingham City Council on May 22, 2023, will advise the Bellingham City Council and City staff on the development of effective tools and policies for all water resources in Bellingham. All community members with interest or experience in water resources are invited to apply.
The purpose of the new advisory board is to help inform and guide the City’s planning and policy regarding the protection and management of water resources, including municipal water, sewer, surface and stormwater systems, controls, rates, and drinking water source protection.
“Members on this newly created board will represent the community’s interests and priorities and help shape how we plan and manage our water systems,” said Bellingham Mayor Seth Fleetwood. “We want community members who are experts in water resources fields, but we also need people that care about Bellingham and can represent a variety of interests. A diverse and representative group will ensure we are making decisions that accurately reflect our collective values.”
In addition to diverse perspectives, Community members with interest or experience in the following areas are invited to apply:
- Drinking water source preservation and protection.
- Drinking water utility systems.
- Sanitary sewer utility systems, including wastewater treatment and disposal.
- Surface and stormwater utility systems.
- Utility finances and rates.
Applications are currently open until filled, with the initial review of applications beginning August 28, 2023.
