Sauna coming to Bloedel Donovan

You asked, Bellingham, and we listened. A sauna is finally coming to a Bellingham waterfront! Starting Friday, Feb. 20, an 8-seat mobile sauna will be open at Bloedel Donovan Park. Cold plunge into Lake Whatcom, anyone? The sauna is operated by Hot Spot Sauna Club, which submitted the winning proposal in an open bidding process. Visit the Hot Spot Sauna Club website for details — information on reservations, pricing, and more coming soon.

Improving public spaces

Sunset Pond loop trail

The new trail around Sunset Pond opens to the public next week! The nearly 2-mile loop features several scenic boardwalks over wetlands, offering a true nature escape right in North Bellingham. The extension also connects three different neighborhoods with a regional trail and park destination: King Mountain, Meridian, and Irongate.

Join us at a celebratory event on Friday, Feb. 27, at 3 p.m. to walk, roll, or ride together around the loop. Find the details on our event calendar.

Meridian Street repairs

Travelers can expect a right northbound lane closure on Meridian Street between Bakerview Road and Kellogg Road next Tuesday and Wednesday (Feb. 24-25) from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. The closure is for sidewalk and roadway repairs related to ongoing sewer main improvement work along Meridian Street.

This project is just one of many planned improvements to ensure safe, reliable water and wastewater services, and your utility bill helps make that possible. Need help paying your bill? Our Customer Assistance Program has been expanded to support more households. To learn more about the program, join us at the Farmer’s Market this Saturday, Feb. 21. You can also find information about utility rate increases and apply for support at our Utility Rates webpage.

Be aware: Fake QR codes found near meters and pay stations

We’ve heard reports of fake QR code stickers posted near parking meters and pay stations around town. These are scams trying to trick people into making fraudulent payments. Here’s the key thing to know: The City of Bellingham does not accept parking payments via QR code. If you see a QR code asking you to pay for parking, do not scan it. Instead, report it by emailing parking@cob.org and include the location. Visit our Hourly Parking webpage for more information.
