Located adjacent to Shuksan Middle School on Bellingham School District property this .7-acre Shuksan Meadows Neighborhood Park has been identified by staff and the neighborhood as a priority for improvement.
The purpose of this project is to replace the playground, maximizing the small space to create opportunities that vary from activities and amenities found at other nearby locations (Birchwood, Little Squalicum, Maplewood open space, Shuksan Middle School).
The existing playground equipment, installed in 1994 and currently used by pre-school and school age children, is weathered, in poor condition and does not comply with current playground safety and accessibility standards.
While the park is located on Bellingham School District property, it is maintained by the City of Bellingham, as detailed in an interlocal agreement with the Bellingham School District. The park is in a residential multifamily – residential Area 3, and low-income neighborhood.
