Woburn Street Site Improvements

The Woburn Street Site Improvements project (EF171) will improve the former Parks & Recreation Operations site located at 1400 Woburn Street by removing or renovating old buildings, grading the site to a more usable format, adding storage, and improving pedestrian access around the site.

Public Works and Parks & Recreation will have bulk storage facilities on the site, as well as improved nursery space for Parks & Recreation.

Project Status – Spring 2025

Construction and pedestrian improvement work continues around the site throughout April – May.

Old Woburn Street will be closed from April 16-21, weather permitting, for the installation of a new crosswalk. Detours will be in place.

The project is expected to be complete by June.

The site will include pedestrian improvements, including:

  • Sidewalks along the east side of Old Woburn and west side of Woburn
  • Improved sidewalk ramps on the west side of Old Woburn
  • Improved pedestrian crossing at Wildflower Way
  • Enhanced pedestrian crossing on Woburn Street, connecting the site to Bayview Cemetery & Whatcom Falls Park

Traffic may be stopped or slowed during sidewalk construction. Please obey all signs and flaggers.

The former horse barn and caretaker house has been removed. The historic weathervane and cupola have been removed and will be saved for inclusion in the final renovation.

Artistic elements will be incorporated into the renovations using 1% for the Arts funding. These will be chosen once the project is complete.

City Council awarded the project to Faber Construction on May 6, 2024 for $6,876,228.75. Funding comes from the Street Fund (45%), Transportation Fund (10%), and REET (45%).
