Agate Pond Preserve

Located on the east side of Squalicum Mountain, this preserve establishes an expansive green space in a sensitive area characterized by steep slopes and panoramic views. In two separate donations, one in 2001 and the other in 2006, the Otto & Wisner family donated a total of 100 acres of forest and lowland ponds to the City.

The Agate Pond Preserve, a conservation easement, allows the owners to hold the land and continue to showcase their excellent stewardship and land management skills while permanently placing it under city protection as a model wildlife refuge and balanced forest ecosystem.

Its size, proximity to other conservation lands, abundance of wildlife and pristine habitat, and admirable owner practices all contribute to the significance of the Agate Pond Preserve in the Lake Whatcom Watershed Property Acquisition Program.
