Frequently Flooded Areas Assessment

In 2017 the City commissioned a city-wide mapping study of frequently flooded areas. The study compiled existing information and assessed other areas that have been historically flooded or may be susceptible to flooding impacts.

The purpose of this effort was to provide best available science for Frequently Flooded Areas as defined in the City’s Critical Areas Ordinance (Bellingham Municipal Code 16.55). This information enables the City of Bellingham and its community to make informed development decisions, comply with the Critical Areas Ordinance, and identify restoration and preservation areas. The report is available below. Associated mapping can be found in the City’s interactive City iQ map under Environmental Information/Flood.
