To ensure that the City of Bellingham is reaching its restoration goals, the Natural Resources Division conducts a variety of studies and assessments including:
- Fish Studies – spawner surveys, smolt traps, forage fish, and nearshore monitoring studies
- Macroinvertebrates – aquatic insects, worms, clams, snails, and other animals without backbones
- Culverts – assessment of all culverts within the city limits
- Water Quality and Quantity – data on water quality and quantity in urban streams
- Habitat Photos – a community photo monitoring project that shows changes at restoration sites over time
- Post Point Heron Colony – annual monitoring reports for the only known heron nesting site in the City
