On Monday, April 20th the City of Bellingham announced that City-hosted summer events that encourage people to gather are canceled in efforts to reduce the spread of COVID-19. While we are unable to provide the Block Party Trailer this summer we are looking forward to having it available in 2021. Visit the COVID-19 Changes for more information.
The City begins accepting applications from neighborhood associations annually in March and the public in April. This colorful, portable trailer stocked with everything needed to host a block party in your neighborhood is available for any Bellingham resident to reserve at no cost. Just add food, drinks, neighbors and fun! It must be used for a neighborhood block party, which means everyone within some geographic area (you define your neighborhood) must be invited.
Reservations for the block party trailer are on a first come, first served basis. In order to place a reservation, you must submit a Trailer Reservation Application to the Parks and Recreation Department. After you have placed your reservation, you must obtain a Special Event Permit from the Permit Center.
If you reserve the trailer, it is yours for the weekend. City staff will drop it off at the requested location on Friday afternoon and pick it back up on Monday morning.

All block parties require a Special Event Permit. However, block parties meeting these criteria are not required to pay review fees or provide indemnification or insurance:
a) The block party has an anticipated attendance of three hundred (300) people or fewer; and
b) The block partywill close off a residential street segment no more than one (1) block in length, or a sidewalk or alley abutting a park, or an unopened right of way; and
c) The block party will occur during daylight hours for a duration of eight (8) hours or less; and
d) The block party does not require police service for crowd control.
