Community Gardens

Looking for a space to grow vegetables, herbs or flowers?  Bellingham Parks & Recreation offers a community garden program at four locations throughout the City:

The Community Garden Program offers 232 plots where program participants can grow their own food and flowers. Garden plots are generally 10′ x 20′ (approximately 200 square feet). Additionally, 12 3′ x 7′ raised beds are offered at King Mountain Community Garden.

Dig In – Let’s Get Started!

Visit the community garden you are interested in to get a feel for the garden space and layout. Each garden has a unique feel and they are situated in different neighborhoods across Bellingham.

You may sign up for a garden plot while they are available by submitting a community garden registration form, or you can be added to the rolling waitlist. We begin taking registration for new gardeners every year in January on a first-come-first-served basis once the waitlist is empty.  Throughout the year, we offer plots as they become available to the next person on the waitlist. Returning gardeners who want the same plots are given priority to re-register for their plots starting in November for the following year.

Rules and Responsibilities

Our goal is to give everyone an enjoyable gardening experience and to be responsible stewards of the land.  In order to achieve these goals, all program participants are expected to follow the Community Garden Rules and Responsibilities.

Refunds

If you are unable to continue participating in the Community Garden program for any reason:

  • Cancellations made prior to May 1 will receive a full refund minus $25 administrative fee.
  • Cancellations made on or after May 1 are not eligible for a refund.

Come grow with us!

Resources

Through January, we are re-registering current plot holders and filling empty plots with people in line on the waitlist. If there are plots available after this process, the registration form will be posted on this site and plots will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.

Waitlist: We keep a rolling waitlist for each of the four community gardens. To add yourself to the waitlist, please email communitygardens@cob.org, including your name, phone number, email, and identify which garden’s waitlist you would like to be added to.
