In Washington State, local law enforcement agencies are responsible for issuing concealed pistol licenses (CPL). You are required to obtain a CPL if you carry a concealed pistol on your person, or if you have a loaded pistol in your vehicle.
CPL Eligibility :
To be eligible to apply for a CPL with the Bellingham Police Department, you must be at least 21 years old and reside within the city limits of Bellingham. If you do not meet the residency requirement, you will be directed to apply for a CPL at the law enforcement agency with jurisdiction where you live.
An application must be filled out and submitted with completed fingerprints. A government-issued picture identification is required for the background check.
It takes approximately 30 days to receive your license or denial in the mail.
Applying for a New CPL or Requesting a Renewal?
Please call 360-778-8803 to request an application be mailed to you. New applicants will be required to schedule an appointment for fingerprinting.
New applicants will bring their completed application and government-issued ID to their fingerprinting appointment. Payment and application fees will be due at the time of your appointment. A CPL (if issued) is good for five (5) years from the date of issuance.
If you are applying to renew your existing CPL, an application and information packet containing submission and payment instructions will be mailed to you.
Payment and application fees are non-refundable if your application is denied. The fees for a CPL are:
