Save Trees to Improve Our Climate & Resiliency
Sep 24, 2023 , 1:00 pm – 3:30 pm
Join Whatcom Million Trees Project in an outdoors, fun, satisfying volunteer work party to remove English ivy that threatens thousands of trees locally.
A family-friendly event (ages 8 or older), we’ll work together hands-on along the popular South Bay Trail between Boulevard Park and downtown. Dozens of trees there face the English ivy threat.
Your simple but effective climate action to remove the ivy will allow the affected trees to continue to capture carbon from the atmosphere and to provide many other important benefits to our community.
WMTP will provide tools, gloves, snacks, and instructions. No special skills or tree-climbing are required. All we need is YOU!
Limited to 35 volunteers, please sign up in advance using this form so we can ensure we bring enough tools, etc. and so we can let you know about any last-minute event changes.
Please join us in this Climate Action Week event to get rid of a slow, silent invasive that is killing thousands of trees locally! Thanks!
Location
We’ll be working on the South Bay Trail, just north of Boulevard Park in Bellingham. Meet at the north tip of Boulevard Park in its upper terrace located halfway up towards State Street. Park in the park below or above on State Street.
Work Party FAQs
Q: When will I receive further details about the work party I signed up for?
A: Details such as the work party’s exact location, parking details, etc. will be emailed to registered participants no later than two days before the work party. If you don’t see that email by then, please contact us (see below) ASAP.
Q: What if I need to cancel?
A: If you signed up, please show up! But if you need to cancel for some unforeseen reason, that’s okay — just please let us know ASAP by email.
Q: Do youth who want to attend have special requirements?
A: For kids 8-15, a waiver must be signed for each youth by their supervising adult, for each work party. Youth 15-17 years old may attend without a parent or guardian as long as they have the signed waiver! Please print and sign the waiver ahead of time (linked here). Youth will not be allowed to participate without the signed waiver.
Q: What should I wear and bring to a work party?
A: Please wear sturdy closed-toed shoes, long pants, and weather-appropriate clothing. Bring a water bottle and favorite gloves if you have your own.
