Future Forests: A Walk in the Woods with RE Sources
Sep 29, 2023 , 10:00 am – 1:30 pm
Have you ever wondered if there are alternatives to clearcut logging? Can our forests produce wood products while still fostering biodiversity, forest health, and climate resilience? Join local forest policy expert Alexander Harris (RE Sources) on a hike through managed timberlands and mature forests to learn about the promises and challenges of “ecological forest management” – a new approach that balances the economic, ecological, and cultural benefits that our forests can provide. Getting boots in the woods is the best way to understand the nuances of forest management on state public lands and the many tradeoffs with every management regime.
We will be hiking about 2.5 miles from Samish Overlook. Please dress appropriately and bring your own lunch and water. Sign up in advance – registration is free!
