For the past two months, several agencies in Whatcom County have looked for a subject who committed several felonies, including a burglary in the first degree. He has fled from multiple agencies by driving so recklessly, the pursuing officers terminated their pursuit for the safety of others.
On December 27th, after committing another residential burglary in Bellingham, BPD officers of the Gold Patrol Team's evening shift spent time looking for this male who was driving a Subaru with stolen license plates. A Corporal and an Officer found the Subaru in the 2100 block of Xenia Street and activated their lights. The male immediately tried to flee, but he was on a dead-end road. Not familiar enough with his surroundings, he pulled into a driveway and tried to back out quickly. The Corporal swiftly developed a plan to foil any attempt to flee by pinning the suspect's car with his patrol Tahoe. This quick action prevented another case of eluding by this subject who has repeatedly shown complete disregard for the safety of others as he is fleeing police.
The subject refused to listen to commands to get out of the car with his hands up despite being told multiple times to do so. Continuing to try and deescalate this situation, officers decided to use a 12 gauge less lethal platform to ventilate one of the windows to attempt to gain compliance. While this got the subject's attention, he still did not comply until chemical irritants were introduced through said ventilated window. This did get his attention and compliance as he got out and followed commands. The subject also made threats toward an arresting officer and showed signs of being under the influence of drugs. He was arrested and booked into jail.
At the scene, officers could see the butt of what looked like a gun sticking out of a seat pocket in the car. The Subaru was seized, and a warrant was applied for and granted. A search revealed several realistic looking BB guns, the other stolen license plate, and evidence of drug use.
The subject was arrested for the following crimes: Attempting to elude police vehicle, harassment, DUI, driving while license suspended, possession of stolen property 3rd degree, resisting arrest, additional felony warrants from previous offenses and four more counts of eluding from other agencies. His bail was set at $330,000.
Great police work and a team effort to get this dangerous person into custody without another pursuit!

Amber this is actually pretty damn good for cameras. I work security and watch cameras all the time, this is a better face shot than we usually get unless we are actively watching someone and zooming in on their face. When you get used to it, you can identify someone off of just small indicators like nose for example. This guy appears to be a Caucasian Male, 35-45, probably around 6' tall, maybe slightly above average body weight. Beard and eyeglasses also helps identify him if seen in person.
Why find him? Nothing will be done. He will suffer no consequences.
When did Phan turn into such a bunch of winers. If you can help, help. Otherwise move on!
UPDATE at 8:13 p.m. - The intersection is now on four-way flash and there are sign crews in the area. They are placing signs for traffic flow, as there is only one eastbound lane open. Please use extreme caution in the area and watch out for the flaggers and repair crew.

You're going to have to explain what "standard four-way stop procedure" is to the entire Pacific Northwest... Half the region is still trying to figure out how to escape a round-a-bout.
Wishing very Happy Holidays to all! May they be filled with joy and spent with friends and family.
A special thanks to all our police officers, support services specialists, and dispatchers for working keeping our community safe during this holiday season. ... See MoreSee Less

BPD Patrol Division is investigating a crash in the 3700 block of Lakeway. Both east & west bound lanes of Lakeway are closed until the crash is cleared. The closure is between Bonanza Way and Birch Street.
It is New Year`s Eve, and we wish everyone a Happy New Year as midnight strikes! Thank you to all BPD officers, support services specialists, and dispatchers who are working tonight keeping our city safe.
For this fun evening and launch into 2025, we`d like to remind everyone of a few things:
🎉 Just as for the 4th of July, fireworks are still illegal in the city limits. Please do not use them. 🎉 Do not drink, or use drugs, and drive! There are plenty of options available like Lyft, Uber, roll old school and grab a taxi, walk or have a designated driver. 🎉 As an additional reminder, a designated driver is completely sober, not the least intoxicated of the group! 🎉 We do not want you to wake up in jail on the first day of a brand-new year (or any day, for that matter!)
If you are one of the brave souls who begins a New Year with a Polar Plunge, good luck, think warm thoughts and good on ya!
Best wishes for a great New Year to all of you from all of us.
