Bellingham Block Party Trailer returns for second season

Providing free fun for your neighborhood's weekend event, Memorial Day through Labor Day

April 16, 2018 - by Monea Kerr, Mayor's Office

Back by popular demand, the City of Bellingham’s Block Party Trailer is geared up and ready to go for its second season. This portable trailer, stocked with everything needed to host a block party in your neighborhood, is available for any Bellingham resident to reserve at no cost. Just add food, drinks and your neighbors!

After a successful inaugural year with the trailer booked every weekend, the City has restocked the trailer with more fun and games for this season. Your neighborhood will revel in the contents of the trailer – in addition to last year’s tables and chairs, water cooler, giant Jenga and Connect Four, hula hoops, equipment for closure of the street, and safety supplies, neighbors will get to enjoy a brand new Cornhole game, sidewalk chalk, and two easy-up canopies.
The trailer is now available for weekend reservations from Memorial Day through Labor Day. While there is no charge for the trailer, the renter must complete an application with the Parks and Recreation department prior to placing a reservation and apply for a special event permit from the Permit Center at least two weeks prior to their block party.
The project, modeled after a highly successful example from Boulder, Colorado, was originally made possible with a grant from the Whatcom Community Foundation’s Project Neighborly, which encourages projects that develop a sense of community and promote neighborliness. In addition to the grant funds, multiple City departments contributed staff time, resources, and supplies to make the trailer a reality and continue its useful purpose for the community.
