Locks and Lock Box Safety

At least two vehicular access points into larger complexes may be required for fire department access. If gates are to be installed or locked, a permit must be obtained from the City of Bellingham Building Services Division. At that time, a detailed map shall be provided, showing distances from the street, turn-arounds, etc. Gates may not be installed or locked until after issuance of the permit. The completed application must be returned to the Fire Prevention Bureau, along with a copy of the building permit and two copies of approved site plans.

A Lock Box is required on the front of the gate for the fire department to gain access.

Lock Boxes are also required on all commercial buildings if there is a fire alarm system or sprinkler system. These can be purchased through Bellingham Lock and Safe or Accurate Lock in Bellingham.
