2022 Pedestrian & Bicycle Master Plan Updates

Project Overview: ES557

The City of Bellingham is in the process of updating the 2012 Pedestrian Master Plan and the 2014 Bicycle Master Plan. These mode-specific plans establish citywide pedestrian and bicycle networks, identify and recommend improved needs, apply community-identified priorities, and develop a fiscally-constrained list of projects for the future. Extensive public input will inform the plan updates.

These projects are funded by the Bellingham Transportation Fund, state and federal grants, and local partnerships.

2024 Pedestrian and Bicycle Master Plans

The goal of the updated master plan is to continue to make the City’s multimodal transportation network more safe, equitable and connected, which will encourage more people to walk, bike, and roll for their daily transportation needs. The plans each include information about policy recommendations, facility design and maintenance, network recommendations, programmatic actions, and implementation. The Transportation Commission endorsed the plans at their April 9, 2024 meeting. The final plan documents, which Council is schedule to review and take action on in May 2024, can be viewed using the links below:
