Ben and I will be there! 🙂 🙂

Busy weekend for our Gold Team Patrol shift!

Between Friday at 10 p.m. to Sunday night at 9 p.m., the shifts combined to arrest nine DUI drivers! This effort brings BPD 2025 DUI arrests to 104!

There were several significant arrests made over the weekend including the following:
- 2100 block of Woburn Street of a man who violated a court order and broke into the home of his former significant other. He committed an assault and broke property. BPD K9 Stella and her handler started a track, while other officers responded to a sighting of the suspect. He was taken into custody, and K9 Stella tracked all the way to where he was found, confirming the path he took. Members of the Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) team also launched an aircraft to look for the suspect in the immediate area.

- Officers responded to the downtown area for a call of a man hurling homophobic slurs toward two people and assaulting one of them. Officers were able to quickly find the man and arrest him for committing a hate crime and get him booked into the jail.

- Our Hazardous Devices Unit (HDU) traveled to Sumas to assist on a call where several improvised explosive devices were found. They spend 9 hours safely removing all the devices and taking them to where they can be rendered safe.

- And on a community policing note, Officer T. Granger spent some time with a resident who was having some trouble with a bike lock. The resident was worried they would not be able to lock up their bike. Officer Granger spent some time with the resident and get their bike lock working properly. Well done, Officer Granger.

Congratulations you have been randomly choosen as one of our winners for today kindly send me a private text messenger or add me up to claim your winnings prize now

On this St. Patrick's Day, normally a day of levity and celebration, began with a terrifying call to 9-1-1. The Blue Team night shift officers ended their worknight with a kidnapping call at 5:30 a.m. The father of an eight-month-old infant barged into the residence where the infant and mother live. He does not live at the residence, nor does he have full custody of the infant. His plan was to abscond with the infant to Nevada in his white Equinox.

BPD Detectives were called in and immediately began to investigate and collaborate with the Skagit County Sheriff's Office Detective Division, the FBI – Federal Bureau of Investigation Bellingham, and also the Washington State Patrol. Their swift investigation and collaboration allowed us to find the Equinox on Interstate 90 near Bellevue. The father was arrested and the infant found, unharmed. BPD detectives assisted with transporting the mother to her child and facilitate the reunion.

“We want to thank the Skagit County Sheriff’s Office, FBI Bellingham and the Washington State Patrol for their assistance in this case,” said Bellingham Police Chief Rebecca Mertzig. “A kidnapped child is truly one of the most terrifying calls to which we can respond. I am very proud how our patrol and detective divisions responded and worked hard to resolve this case swiftly, bringing this infant home safely to their mother.”

We are all so glad this call ended with Mom and baby being reunited safely. The dedication, teamwork, and tenacity of our patrol officers and detectives along with assist by SCSO, WSP, and the FBI allowed for this great outcome!

The father was brought back to Whatcom County and booked into the jail for kidnapping and burglary charges.
