Oh look! A really cute dog named Astra (BPD facility dog)! You could see Astra all the time if *only* you worked here at the Bellingham Police Department... Oh wait!! 😲 You CAN work here! 🎉🎉HURRAY🎉🎉 There is still one more week to apply for our Data Analyst position! (Or, you could apply to be a cop... just a thought...)
*ACHEM* Back to my original point... Are you wondering what will you get to do as a Data Analyst (besides hanging out with Astra, of course)?? Well, this position is responsible for the analysis, implementation, administration, and maintenance of business systems used by our department, such as in-car technology devices/connectivity, law enforcement (LE) applications, and building access. It researches and evaluates new police technology. You would get to manage device firmware and operating system upgrades, updates, and deployment of applications.
As the Data Analyst, you serve as the back-up administrator for systems and projects overseen by the Police Technology Manager. Further, you will assist in developing and maintaining programs to ensure City compliance with internal policies, security best practices, and regulatory standards, such as Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) and WASPC Accreditation standards.

The problem here folks is everything was just relocated to other areas in town. Like Walmart and Jack in the Box camps. The downtown looks better, sure, but fentanyl is still killing people AND there is still a huge unhoused population in our community that is not being helped.
What is the plan Mayor Lund? Chiefs?
Sure, the pandemic played a SMALL role, but the overwhelming cause of the issues in Bellingham as a whole, not just downtown are a direct result of liberal policies
It is starting to look and feel better downtown, so thank you for that.
We still need more preventative and treatment services. 🙏
Skagit Preschool and Resource Center invited Officer Parker to give their students an introduction to law enforcement late last month. He delighted the robust group of preschoolers and provided them a hands-on opportunity to paw through his squad car and check out his badge. Ofc. Parker taught them how to recognize a police officer, showed them the tools and safety equipment he carries, instructed them how and when to call 911 to summon help, and more. They loved making the lights flash, pressing buttons on the radio, and using the PA mic. Oddly enough, some of them *REALLY* liked the back seat...🤷♀️ (We're hoping they strive to be in the front seat of our vehicles someday instead). One of the kiddos awarded Ofc. Parker with a dandelion to thank him for the awesome show-and-tell. Talk about an awwwwwwwwwwwwwe moment. 🥰 ... See MoreSee Less
I remember my hubby doing this. Building connections when they are young. hopefully these kiddos will never need to reach out for help, but these bonds help them if they ever need to. Thank you, Officer Parker!
Did anyone else think of Marty McFly in "Back to the Future"? "Get used to those bars, kid" 😄 Good job as always, BPD!
I think this is so important, especially now days with the disrespect of law inforcement going on.
OY! All you joggers and runners out there- we see you *ALL* the time pounding pavement around town. We know it is because you have been training to participate in Fun with the Fuzz 5k on May 4, 2024. Good news for you- registration is OPEN!! The event, which starts and finishes at Bellingham Police Department, is put on by Behind the Badge Foundation, a trusted resource providing comprehensive support to Washington State’s law enforcement agencies, families, and communities after an officer has died or suffered a serious injury in the line of duty. You can register for the 5k as an individual or as a team (there are prizes for the largest team and the team that raises the most money). In addition to feeling amazing for supporting a good cause, your $20 registration fee will get the first 1,000 people who register a pint glass and a reusable grocery sack (that may sound lame to some of you young whipper snappers... but those things are hot commodities!) Additional details can be found online at www.funwiththefuzz5k.com/the-race. Go register and circle the date on your calendar! MAY THE FOURTH BE WITH YOU!!!

As I sit here typing, I hear voices coming through my radio directing Bellingham Police Officers (along with the other law enforcement officers in Whatcom County) all over our community to handle anything from reports of people fighting to possible behavioral health issues occurring. Just like their first responder counterparts, our What-Comm dispatchers work long hours handling traumatic calls for a plethora of life`s "worst moments". Each and every shift brings challenges. Bellingham Police Department couldn`t manage without them. The second week of April, if you didn`t know, is National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week. Please join us in recognizing, honoring, and thanking our dispatchers (and all other dispatchers out there). They are dedicated professionals who deserve praise for helping to care for our community. What-Comm dispatchers, thank you for being the voices inside our heads!...

Original Release: 4/15/2024Just after 3:00 this morning (4/15/2024), What-Comm dispatch received multiple calls reporting that shots could be heard from the woods near Tull Rd., off Kellogg. When officers arrived in the area, they encountered a group of people, one of whom was loaded into a cart and had an obvious gunshot wound to the upper body. Officers began rendering aid to the injured man and he was transported to the hospital, where he succumbed. The people assisting the man did not identify themselves to officers. Search warrants were obtained to go onto the private property for further investigation. BPD deployed K9 assets and an Unmanned Aircraft System to search for other potential victims and evidence. Detectives and crime scene investigators believe they have identified the location in the woods where the shooting incident occurred. BPD SWAT also responded to provide scene security.
The death investigation is being treated as a homicide. Detectives are withholding the identity of the decedent until positive identification is determined by the Medical Examiner. At this time, no one has been taken into custody regarding the shooting. Investigation is ongoing....
