Construction season is picking up

With the arrival of spring, construction activity is increasing across the city. From neighborhood streets to major infrastructure projects, you may notice more work underway in the coming weeks, including:

  • Crews will be paving the roadway along Dupont Street, C Street, and Irving Street over the next couple of weeks, patching up areas for the Russell-Irving Watermain Replacement project. Keep an eye out for No Parking signs.
  • Construction began in March for the new What-Comm Dispatch facility, with demolition of the former fire training tower. Foundation work will take place throughout April. The project is expected to be complete by fall 2027.
  • Nighttime paving is anticipated in early April for the Meridian Sewer project between Bakerview Road and Kellogg Road, weather depending. Overnight work helps reduce daytime traffic impacts.
  • We kicked off construction on the Old Town Streetscape Improvements project. Crews will begin trenching and replacing sewer mains on D and E Streets next week. Single-lane closures on Holly Street are expected and flaggers will be present.
  • Work will also begin next week on the James Street Shared Use Path, between Telegraph Road and Gooding Avenue. Single-lane closures will be in place while crews begin clearing trees and debris from the right of way before beginning storm and drain work.

You can explore these and other current and upcoming projects across the city on our new interactive map at cob.org/projects.

See and comment on our 20-year plan for parks and recreation

You shared your priorities — more family-focused events and better spaces for year‑round recreation, filling gaps in trail connections and neighborhoods with fewer parks, and improving features like restrooms, lighting, and signage.

Now you can see how those ideas will shape the future of Bellingham’s parks and recreation in our Parks, Recreation and Open Space Plan (PROS Plan). Explore what’s ahead and share your feedback through April 20 at Engage Bellingham

Speaking of feedback, we’d also like to hear your latest experiences downtown
