To provide improved safety for pedestrians at key intersections in the City, the Transportation Benefit District board approved funding for improvements at six intersections.
Completing bike lanes along this corridor will provide a multi-modal transportation corridor extending from the northern portion of the city to the city center.
The 2012 Annual Overlay Program aims to maintain existing streets to protect the initial investment in the street and ensure an adequate quality driving surface for mobility and public safety.
Improvements are needed surrounding the I-5/ Bakerview Road interchange to support economic development in this fast growing area of Bellingham. The long-term plan calls for a full re-build of the interchange that is not financially viable now.
This project involves construction of a multimodal roundabout at the intersection of Northwest Avenue and McLeod Road to add bicycle and pedestrian safety as well as accommodate motor vehicle traffic circulation. This is part of the Safe Routes to School
