This project is a priority for public access to the waterfront and is identified in Phase One of the Waterfront District Interlocal Agreement for Facilities. This project will also help meet the objectives of the 2014 Park, Recreation and Open Space Plan
The north Railroad Avenue Trail bridge crossing Whatcom Creek between York and Ellis Streets caught fire on Friday, November 23, 2012. The old creosote-treated structure was removed and replaced with a new, clear-span bridge.
To provide improved safety for pedestrians at key intersections in the City, the Transportation Benefit District board approved funding for improvements at six intersections.
This project proposes to install rain gardens for stormwater inflitration at the intersection of Cornwall Ave and Maple St. The existing stormwater catch basins at the intersection are connected to the sewer system because there is not stormwater piping.

To improve pedestrian access and safety across State Street, this project consists of pedestrian crossing improvements including bulb outs, crosswalks, ADA facilities, drainage, landscaping, and improved signage at the intersection of State and Maple Sts.
