Important update about Climate Action Week 2024
For five years, Climate Action Week has been a highlight of our city’s commitment to actions to protect our future. It has been a platform to showcase the incredible work our community is doing to make progress on our climate goals. But as climate challenges intensify, our work needs to evolve too, so we have decided to step down from hosting Climate Action Week.
We’re taking a strategic step to focus our resources on actions that directly reduce climate emissions, and on adaptation programs that build a more climate resilient community. We’ll continue to build upon our essential climate work, such as:
- Installing electric heating systems
- Growing our electric vehicle charging network
- Investing in bike and pedestrian pathways
- Providing safe spaces for people during extreme heat
- Improving our urban forest,
- Analyzing climate impacts
- Seeking and advocating for state and federal funding for our efforts
- Hosting community events like Earth Week and volunteer tree plantings
- And more
However, Climate Action Week can continue to thrive! We believe it can be even more powerful led by our passionate community. Climate Action Week excelled at highlighting all the great work happening, and we know this energy can be sustained. Want to take the reins? We’d love to support you with guidance and tips! Thank you to everyone who made Climate Action Week a success. Together, as we evolve our climate work, we’re making a difference for Bellingham’s future.
